1-Aberrant, how are you?
Alton: Stoned...haha and excited for the tour.
Gordon: STOKED!
2- Introduce the current Aberrant line-up to the Japanese readers.
Alton:Chris- riffmerchant. Alton- vocal machine. Gordon- bateria.
Gordon: I am the new touring drummer. I am 24 and also play in Black Sleep Of Kali and a few other bands in Colorado.
3- Tell us a little about the band's history, the discography, the first shows. And also, what's the meaning of the band's name?
Alton:Well Chris started Aberrant back in probably 99. We've had a few drummers and a few more bass players and even a couple second guitar players....but always Chris and I. We are very stoked to see Gordon come into the fold he seems to be working out beautifully...

4- Tell us about the influence of grindcore on Aberrant's music.
Alton: Grindcore is humanity, humanity is the devil....haha...grindcore is the devil....we are minions... oh yea we love grind....Repulsion! I remember the first Napalm Death record I bought from Wax Trax, "From Enslavement"....I remember the first cassette I boosted from music land....Cryptic Slaughter "Money Talks"...late 80s was a hey day of new music gems to find....grindcore has shaped the left hand path for me....
Gordon:Since I am new my idea is brief but, the grind element is Aberrant's primary. Relying on the old school swung hardcore power chord riff to solidify songs and break between the death metal like single note tremolo picking grind riffs provide an interesting blend of both genres. Instead of just power chord and halftime chug riffs for the blast beat to accentuate the intensity, Chop puts himself in the same boat as the drums for a display of frantic speed and groove. The death metal element is subtle but very affective where as the grind element more up front and bold.
5- What can we expect from the double LP called, “Complete Grindworks”? Tell us a little about this new release, which was released in Japan in 2010!
Alton: This release is a beast, no a juggernaut... 33 tracks 62 minutes....2 LPs....3 unreleased tracks and a complete discography with all the lyrics that have never before been printed all jam packed into a full color gatefold cover....sell your little sisters blood at the blood bank for this one, it's not to be missed.
6- What are the themes in the lyrics? How's the writing process?
Alton: Chris is a riffmerchant. He comes to practice with complete destruction on his mind and apparently can translate that via guitar.... I write the lyrics about stuff I would do if there were no consequences....I liberate the dark feelings hiding inside...
7- What are the band members listening to nowadays?
Alton: Burning Witch, Coffins, Machetazo, Haemorrage, Magrudergrind, PLF, Bible of the Devil, Turbonegro, Buried at Sea....Captian Beyond.
Gordon:I am a huge Discordance Axis fan, so they are my grind stand by. I recently go a hold of Dave Witte's old project Human Remains, they are fucking sick. As for standard listening, i am really into hardcore, doom, sludge, jazz and electronic stuff. Converge, Eyehategod, Grief, Sleep, John Zorn, Parlamentarisk Sodomi, Magruder Grind, Early Graves (RIP Makh), Amon Tobin, Flying Lotus, J DIlla, Admiral Angry (Holy SHIT these guys are heavy!!), GAZA (My Favorite band ever!!), Mr. Oizo, 16 Horsepower, Ali Farka Toure, Black Flag, OFF! (new band!!), Benga, Krakow Klezmer Band. Black Elk, Enabler, Bone Dance, Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Geinoh Yamashirogumi (Akira soundtrack), 1349,Goblin and too much more shit to list hahaha!
8- I know that you guys are Japanese food lover. What do you know about Japan? What do you admire about this country?
Alton:Sushi, ramen, kobe beef...!!!! I love the gore and horror movies.....karate, martial arts and the samurai....
Gordon:Ramen is the shit!! Tonkotsu is my favorite! My father and mother are art collectors so I grew up with a lot of wood prints and such. Hokusai,YoshiToshi,Okumura Masanobu. I love the artwork and history! I have all the Zatoichi films! Really into Akira Kurosawa and Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo Iron Man). I love Japanese Tattoo culture and history. Horiyoshi III is one of the best artist in the world! All of the Japanese underground culture seem so fucking cool and the girls are super cute!! Oh and tentacle porn is crazy!!
9- What do you know about the Japanese scene? Which bands do you like best and what impresses you about them?
Alton: All of the Japan scene just kicks so much ass.. Unholy Grave, 324, DIE, Realized, Coffins, Little Bastards, Yellow Machinegun Darge!!! Too many good bands in Japan not to mention all of the good rocknroll and doom in Japan. We are very excited to get this unique experience..
Gordon: I got into the Japan Grind scene when I was in highschool. El Nudo and Quill, 324 and such. I played a show with Melt Banana in Denver last December which was fantastic! It was an honor to meet those guys. I really like how strange everything can get when put through Japanese minds. Merzbow, Melt Banana, Boris and Ruins continually fuck with my head! You guys Kick ass at music! FUCK!
10-Confirmed Aberrant Excursion Japan Tour 2010 with Darge in december in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya ,what is the expectation of the band to play here? Tell me about the enthusiasm for coming to Japan
Alton: I can't believe its really happening, ABERRANT is honored to be given this chance....GRIND!
Gordon: Ever since I started playing music, it has been a dream of mine to play a show in Japan, so when Aberrant called me up to help them with this tour I almost shit myself! You can expect to see me overly exited about everything and bashing the fuck out of my drums! When I get pumped I go nuts and flail around a lot haha! This tour will be a blur for me but I will be trying to hang out with as much people as possible and absorb all the awesome I can! I WANNA HANG OUT WITH EVERYONE!!! So come have a beer with me and get hugs!
11-You already learned a few words in Japanese? What do you know?
Alton: I know no Japanese at all hopefully Gordon learns some....I'm just gonna smile and nod....ill be the happy kid agreeing with everything. Haha
Gordon:So far I know Biru,Arigatōgozaimasu,Iwai! and Rajio hayai! I am trying to learn more but I am very busy. If anything I can just act excited about everything and eat!
12-What are the next plans of Aberrant?
Alton: lined up next we have a split LP with DER from Brazil, then a full length is lined up for the future, we also have plans for a few split 7"s with Darge and SMG....also a 10 date tour for Brazil coming next year April/May..so were trying to stay out of trouble...
Gordon:I am scared of Brazil!! It is going to be fucking MADNESS! I'll let you know if I survive after that haha!
